Jamie Lee Curtis Reflects on Plastic Surgery Regrets and Addiction Struggles

Jamie Lee Curtis, an outspoken advocate for the entertainment industry’s role in the ongoing addiction crisis, has been open about her own struggles with addiction. She even apologized for getting plastic surgery at 25. In various interviews, including a revealing segment on “60 Minutes,” Curtis shared her journey with addiction, which spanned a decade and involved deceitful behaviors.

Curtis, now 66 years old, starred in the acclaimed drama series “The Bear” and alongside Pamela Anderson in “The Last Showgirl.” Her acting career is nothing short of profound, starring in the classic aerobics-themed drama “Perfect” alongside John Travolta. Even with her professional triumphs, Curtis struggled with trauma that took a substantial toll on her well-being and existence.

One cinematographer on set joked that Curtis’ “eyes are saggy.” This comment eventually played a big role in her decision to get plastic surgery. She went on to get the surgery, but instantly wished she hadn’t. Curtis has since voiced her outrage over the decision, sharing that it was the experience that made her start taking painkillers.

“I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate. You know, drank a little bit, never to excess, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet and private about it. But it became a dependency for sure.” – Jamie Lee Curtis

Curtis courageously revealed that she struggled with addiction for 10 years. To get through that time, she turned to shoplifting and other secretive activities. Reflecting on her experiences, she remarked, “I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic. I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one.”

Curtis has now been sober for 26 years. Today, she ardently promotes the virtues of truthfulness and authenticity in her personal life and business endeavors. In 2023, she received her first Oscar for her unforgettable role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” This accomplishment represented a major turning point in her career.

More recently, Curtis took to social media to condemn the misuse of her likeness in a “completely AI bogus commercial.” She expressed concern that such practices diminish her opportunities to share her truth, stating, “This (MIS)use of my images … with new, fake words put in my mouth diminishes my opportunities to speak my truth.”

Curtis has made no secret of her objections to society’s growing fixation on cosmetic enhancements and digital filters. She is concerned that this trend will affect the way future generations believe beauty to be defined.

“The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty.” – Jamie Lee Curtis
