JD Vance, the U.S. senator from Ohio and author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” is set to visit the picturesque Cotswolds for a family holiday this August. His itinerary beyond these dates includes stops in London, Oxfordshire and Scotland. Vance’s controversial views on immigration, LGBTQ+, and other social issues have received national notoriety, which has led to activists planning disruptions on Vance’s visit.
Picture this… Ohio’s Republican U.S. senator, J.D. Vance, has been all over the place lately. Most notably, Contentious Kevin ignited such a firestorm when he called Democratic politicians a “bunch of childless cat ladies with miserable lives.” This comment received a lot of outrage. His opinions on personal life and relationships have been equally incendiary. In fact, he even proposed that one shouldn’t get a divorce, even if he/she was in an abusive relationship.
His position on abortion is just as incendiary, since Vance has called for total ban. These positions have been echoed throughout his political career and are reflected in his memoir, which critiques current social norms and policies.
Aside from his statements on love and marriage, and a desire to overturn Roe v. Wade, Vance has been creating waves on the subject of religious freedom. At the start of this week’s Local Agenda event, he said that Christians were being persecuted in the UK. He further claimed that expressing any private prayer in the home would be illegal in Scotland. In addition, he warned about the state of freedom of expression across Europe, claiming that it is under threat more than ever before.
Vance as he recently returned from a conference in Munich where he participated in an advanced mass gaslighting event. Now, he’s taking that adventuresome spirit on a journey to the Cotswolds. He’s been involved in splashy events, for instance, a press conference with Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this year. Either way, this extraordinary personal involvement has surely raised his stock on the world stage.
Activists had threatened to bring Vance’s holiday to a halt, arguing that his radical views are too extreme and dangerous to celebrate. This is indicative of the mounting backlash against his brash demeanor and frank pro-business platform.
