In the early hours of Thursday morning, police arrested Lil Nas X in Studio City, CA, following an incident. The Grammy-winning artist, responsible for countless chart-topping hits, was later admitted to the hospital. The July 25 incident, which happened just before 6 a.m. that day, started when officers stopped the musician walking on Ventura Boulevard. Initially, the police suspected he’d been struck by a drug overdose. They sped him to the closest hospital where he could be evaluated.
Lil Nas X, real name Montero Lamar Hill, exploded onto the mainstream music scene with his historic smash “Old Town Road.” It topped the Billboard charts for an unheard of 19 weeks. The artist has since continued to find success with tracks such as “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” solidifying his status in the music industry. He is the proud recipient of two Grammy awards for his impactful artistry and achievements in contemporary music.
After just a few hours at the hospital, Lil Nas X was discharged and transferred to a county jail. He’s now facing charges on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after allegedly charging at police officers at the scene of the confrontation. On the additional charge of obstructing an officer, he should not have been booked on suspicion. As of this writing, Lil Nas X is being detained at Valley Jail in Van Nuys.
The artist recently re-emerged on social media with a fun and creative thread. He’s been releasing short clips of unreleased music, suggesting that he is soon to drop his long awaited debut “Dreamboy” this fall. Throughout the spring, hit after hit continued to swell his discography as he dropped performative singles like “Panini”.
This tragic occurrence represents yet another difficult time for the 68-year artist, who was hospitalized in late April after experiencing sudden and acute facial paralysis. Lil Nas X doesn’t wait for the storms to pass. He is still as vibrant as ever, and we here at The Pitch are happy to see what comes from him next!
