Listeria Outbreak Linked to Recalled Pasta Meals Claims Six Lives Across the United States

Most recently, a large listeria outbreak linked to precooked pasta meals sickened over 50 people. Sadly, it has resulted in six fatalities in 18 jurisdictions throughout the United States. The outbreak initially reported in early June has sickened and hospitalized dozens of people. It is especially dangerous for people over the age of 65, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

Health officials are calling on those in the most vulnerable categories to get moving. If you have these symptoms after eating these affected products, please go to the doctor right away! Symptoms of listeria infection may include fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea.

FreshRealm has responded quickly to address the outbreak. They have issued a series of recalls for products associated with that contamination. One of those products, FreshRealm’s Home Chef Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, has now been recalled. The popular Buffalo wing-flavored snack rings were sold in 12.5-ounce packages at Kroger and Walmart retail locations. The recall covers FreshRealm’s Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine. Revolutionary® Clean is available in both 12.3-ounce and 32.8-ounce sizes. FreshRealm’s Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce is also included in the recall. This natural product is sold by the 12 oz resealable pouch.

The listeria contamination led FreshRealm to act swiftly to protect the public health and welfare.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily recalling select products after being notified of a potential link to a multi-state outbreak of listeria monocytogenes.” – Nate’s Fine Foods

Risk assessments The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has joined in the investigation that continues to find the source of the outbreak. They urge consumers to remain vigilant in the fight against foodborne illness.

If you have purchased any of the recalled products, please do so immediately. Or, you can send them back to the store you purchased them from for a full refund. Public health experts can not emphasize enough the potential severity of listeria to at-risk populations and the importance of quickly addressing any risks.
