Paul Doyle, 53, of West Derby, Liverpool was charged with several violent felonies. These charges resulted from a parade-related collision that caused the death of residents of the city. The crash occurred around 6 PM on bank holiday Monday on Water Street. It burned dozens of acres and at least 79 people were injured, with 27 requiring overnight hospitalization.
Doyle has been charged with dangerous driving causing death. He’s been additionally charged with two counts each of grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent. Specifically, two of these charges apply to a child victim among the six victims total.
The North West ambulance service alone was treating upwards of 50 people for their wounds en route to area hospitals. Even more tragically, seven of those persons remain in the hospital. The abruptness of the cancellation and the alarming impact the alternative would cause have mobilized overwhelming outcry and opposition from the school community.
