Action from French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. Their startup non-profit has since filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative commentator Candace Owens. On Wednesday, the Delaware lawsuit was re-filed. It comes from Owens’ prediction that the French First Lady, Brigitte Macron, is a man—a statement she made in January of 2024. The Macrons allege that Owens has engaged in ongoing defamatory attacks aimed at increasing her media platform and her audience for profit.
The lawsuit focuses on particular statements by Owens in her eight-part podcast series, “Becoming Brigitte.” As part of this tour, she reportedly doubled down on some of the lies she’s told about Brigitte Macron’s gender. The Macrons strongly refute Owens’ claims as having no factual basis. They regarded these remarks as part of a coordinated effort designed to intimidate them and their families.
Owens has not publicly responded to the lawsuit so far. Her unanswered call for comment left many wondering as to what her next move will be. Clare Locke, who is suing the Macrons, … This heavy-hitting defamation law firm is best known for their successful persuasion against Fox News in the high-profile Dominion lawsuit.
In their court filing, the Macrons call Owens’ claims on his website “outrageous,” asserting that Owens’ claims have inflicted extreme emotional distress. They claim that her 30+ page campaign of defamation was specifically designed to draw media attention and national notoriety at their expense.
“Ms Owens’ campaign of defamation was plainly designed to harass and cause pain to us and our families and to garner attention and notoriety. We gave her every opportunity to back away from these claims, but she refused. It is our earnest hope that this lawsuit will set the record straight and end this campaign of defamation once and for all.” – The Macrons
The couple emphasized the damaging effects of Owens’ rhetoric, describing it as “a campaign of global humiliation, turning their lives into fodder for profit-driven lies.” They sounded exasperated at the fact that they were even put in the position of needing to sue after having repeatedly sought corrections.
“Because Ms Owens systematically reaffirmed these falsehoods in response to each of our attorneys’ repeated requests for a retraction, we ultimately concluded that referring the matter to a court of law was the only remaining avenue,” – The Macrons
The case plays out, the stakes are high for both plaintiffs and defendants. The Macrons hope to see justice served in this legal route. They want to protect their reputations from what they describe as malicious falsehoods.
