Nine people sustained critical injuries following a stabbing spree. This latest attack, which took place on an Avanti West Coast train from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. The shocking attack began just minutes after the LNER service pulled out of Peterborough station, prompting a massive police response.

One person described witnessing “blood everywhere” as the people were “trampled underfoot” trying to flee the gunfire. Photos from the incident showed hundreds of blue-light police vehicles and emergency services parked at the scene.
British Transport Police (BTP) were quick to declare a major incident immediately following the attack. First, they used the fancy trigger word “Plato,” a national dog whistle codeword. Law enforcement and emergency services to use it to indicate an active shooter terror attack. This declaration was soon withdrawn as the situation evolved.
In response, authorities quickly arrested two individuals connected to the racialized stabbings. At the same time, police could be seen stunning an individual thought to be in possession of a long knife with a Taser. The rapid response and decisive actions of armed officers was instrumental in preventing further harm and stopping the terrorist attack from spreading across the city.
In response to the violence, national political leaders condemned the attack. Labour party leader Sir Keir Starmer called the incident “deeply concerning,” pointing to the need for communities to feel safe. On the other hand, Ben Obese-Jecty called it “appalling and devastating,” as it points out the long-term psychological effects that such violence has on a community.
