Mystery Deepens in Hackman and Arakawa Case: Authorities Seek Answers

Authorities have intensified their investigation into the mysterious deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa. Their partially mummified bodies were discovered on February 26 in their Santa Fe home, with the timeline suggesting they may have passed away over a week earlier. Santa Fe County Sheriff, Adan Mendoza, confirmed the ongoing search for answers in this puzzling case.

The couple's beloved kelpie mix, Zinna, also died. Joey Padilla, owner of the Santa Fe Tails pet care facility, reminisced about the bond between Betsy and Zinna.

"Zinna went from being a returned shelter dog to this incredible companion under Betsy’s hand." – Joey Padilla

Authorities initially misidentified a deceased dog during their investigation into Hackman and Arakawa's deaths. Although a necropsy was not performed on Zinna, she was described by Padilla as "always attached to Betsy at the hip and it was a beautiful relationship."

Authorities are examining personal items retrieved from the home, including a monthly planner and two cellphones. Despite initial concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning, both bodies tested negative. However, a more comprehensive inspection by the utility company revealed a minuscule leak from one stove burner inside the house.

Medical investigators remain occupied with clarifying the causes of death, but the process has been complex. Toxicology reports are anticipated to take several months before offering any conclusive insights. The delay leaves friends and family awaiting further information on this tragic event.
