Narendra Modi Joins Truth Social Amidst Platform’s Challenges

Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), has welcomed a new high-profile member: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Launched by Donald Trump in February 2022, the platform emerged following his temporary ban from major social networks, accused of inciting violence. Truth Social has attracted attention for its association with Trump, yet it continues to face challenges in user engagement and growth.

Truth Social currently boasts 9.28 million followers, a figure that pales in comparison to Trump's following of 87 million on X, formerly known as Twitter. Despite its presence in the social media landscape, Truth Social's traffic remains minor relative to its competitors, with its total user numbers trailing X by a factor of 400. Such statistics highlight the platform’s struggle to carve out a substantial niche in the crowded social media market.

Narendra Modi's arrival on Truth Social marks a notable development for the platform. As of 03:30 GMT, Modi had accumulated 21,500 followers. His engagement on the platform includes following Donald Trump and JD Vance. This move could potentially enhance Truth Social’s visibility, drawing interest from Modi’s extensive global follower base.

In a bid to capitalize on Modi's presence, Donald Trump shared a link to an interview featuring the Indian Prime Minister on Truth Social. The interview was conducted by podcaster Lex Fridman, providing an opportunity for both leaders to engage with their audiences on the platform.

Despite these efforts, TMTG faces financial challenges. The company reported losses amounting to $400 million in 2024, although it maintains a market valuation of $4.45 billion. These figures underscore the ongoing hurdles that Truth Social and its parent company must overcome to achieve financial stability and user growth.
