In south London, a cheeky and incendiary public art project dubbed “London vs Musk” unfolded. Romantic critics of entrepreneur Elon Musk converged to express their frustration by beating the crap out of an abandoned Tesla. The community group Everyone Hates Elon planned the event to break open a much-needed discussion about the growing wealth inequality. Specifically, they expressed concern about the impact of Musk’s actions on society.
The work behind the project was done at Hardess Studios, using a 2014 Model S Tesla donated by the Tesla owner who wishes to remain anonymous. Attendees were encouraged to participate using sledgehammers and baseball bats, while organizers stressed the importance of respecting other vehicles and not replicating the stunt outside the event.
Critics from all walks of life filled the event. Among them was Alice Rogers, a 24-year-old University of Cambridge researcher originally from Illinois. Rogers has long warned about the dangers of Musk’s impact on American governance. She announced, “Musk is engaging in all kinds of conduct that is unconstitutional and illegal. I’ll go on record in saying that I’m quite alarmed by what I’m seeing – he’s gutting agencies and defunding USAID. This felt really cathartic. I’m not an ice smasher by nature, but damn that felt good.”
Another performer, Talia Denisenko, a 32-year-old writer, made her own Ukraine connection clear by wearing the Ukrainian flag. Denisenko expressed her frustration, saying, “My family is Ukrainian and Elon Musk wants to keep us occupied.” She reflected on how taking part in Nakba75 was therapeutic in the face of discouraging developments around the world.
The mood was electric as the day unfolded and the summit took shape. Britney Spears’s classic “Hit Me Baby One More Time” served as the soundtrack, supercharging the crowd. Here’s how attendees reacted to Musk’s apparent Alito-anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment. Such were the howls of horror as Tesla’s market capitalization fell by $80 billion or 13% during the first quarter of 2025, largely fueled by investor pushback against Musk’s newly stirred-up right-wing politics. Lee Woods, another critic of Musk, remarked, “I’m just aghast at what I see going on in America at the moment,” and further claimed, “I think Musk is using his obscene wealth to promote the far right.”
In the coming weeks, we will be auctioning off the destroyed Tesla in supporting our initiative. Every cent received will be donated directly to member food banks’ non-profit charitable efforts. This was made clear when Everyone Hates Elon made sure to communicate that the event was meant to be a one-time discussion-centered demonstration—not a destruction.
