Remote Karaoke Duets Achieve Seamless Connection in Tokyo Trial

Real-time karaoke tech just got a big leap forward thanks to NTT Communications, which recently showcased the advanced tech in a live performance trial held in Tokyo. From the courtroom On December 14, 2024, the trial demonstrated the extensive potential of NTT’s Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN). This amazing technology was actually created in Japan by NTT Communications, an NTT subsidiary.

So we joined forces with his company Xing, the people who operate Japan’s famous Joysound karaoke environment. What we were aiming for was having singers do duets without any latency, even if they were far away from each other. Idol group members of the well-known Aicong idol group took part in the mock trial. They sang on touch-tone karaoke machines that were rigged up roughly 3 miles apart.

The trial utilized advanced optical technologies to ensure that the audio and video signals remained synchronized, allowing for an uninterrupted singing experience. This development is particularly significant for karaoke enthusiasts who enjoy duet performances but often face connectivity issues or delays when attempting to sing with friends remotely.

NTT Communications reported the successful outcome of the trial on December 17, 2024, announcing it at 05:30 JST. The findings indicated that IOWN technology has the potential to change the karaoke world forever. This is crucial, especially in our new post-pandemic world where much of our interaction is virtual and these nuances translate differently.

The partnership between NTT Communications and Xing emphasizes the power of strategic collaboration to drive technological innovation within the entertainment industry. By investing in state-of-the-art optical networks, they are helping to create better user experiences on every platform. This trial is a huge step in providing seamless connections for long-distance collaborative singing endeavors. It creates an enriching sense of community culture and experience for everyone that gets to use it.
