Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is embarking on the biggest transformation in its history to solidify its position as one of the world’s premier tourism destinations. They want to raise billion in new tourism receipts. Following a government rebuke regarding its recent performance, the integrated resort aims to redefine itself by launching a series of attractions and investments through 2030.
In November 2024, Singapore’s gambling regulator extended RWS’s casino license for only two years, rather than the usual three. That decision was based upon what those officials called “underperforming” tourism between 2021-2023. The RWS responded by announcing a $5.3 billion commitment towards renewing and expanding the resort’s offerings.
“This year is really a game-changing year for us,” stated Lee Shi Ruh, CEO of Resorts World Sentosa. There will be an underlying consumer preference towards creating experiences as opposed to just purchasing products. Our attention is deeply shifted towards experiences,” she continued, stressing how important it is to draw in tourists with enriching and illustrative activities.

“Minions stood out because … this yellow character is very resonate to all ages of visitors, and all around the world because of the language that they use. It resonates from Asia to Europe to America and everywhere else,” – Lee Shi Ruh
This gorgeous new development will include a 700-room hotel, picturesque hiking trails and a dramatic 289-foot light sculpture! As this “brownfield project” proves, increasing the desirability of the Greater Southern Waterfront is of utmost importance. You’ll even be able to see from mainland Singapore!
The future improvements may not be so bright though. RWS Madagascar zone has been changed to Minion Land. Production and Tourism Extension They’ve fully renovated the original S.E.A. Aquarium, reopening the new Singapore Oceanarium in 2025. These adjustments represent a purposeful change in direction designed to be more in step with changing visitor demands.
“The waterfront lifestyle complex is really going to enhance the appeal of the Greater Southern Waterfront,” Lee remarked, indicating confidence in the potential impact of these projects.
Resorts World Sentosa is taking significant steps to redefine its brand. It has a pledged duty to adhere to the requests of not only tourists but government municipalities as well.
