In the searing new western film The Unholy Trinity, a story of revenge and redemption unfolds. The show followed Isaac Broadway, Tim Daly’s character. Now, he not only stands accused of wrongful murder charges, but deals with the heavy impact of what he did in the past. The film takes place in the fictional Montana town of Trinity, where the film deeply connects the lives of its characters. Through these two journeys we arrive at a powerful and gripping journey for justice.
Isaac Broadway as Robert is able to still connect with his son, Henry (Brandon Lessard), now a ghost. Isaac’s move is a courageous one. He orders Henry to get vengeance on Sheriff Butler, the corrupt official who falsely imprisoned him for a crime he didn’t commit. The film’s narrative arc is framed by an increasingly dysfunctional father-son dynamic. Yet it shows the lengths a mother will go to, to defend her child and reestablish honor.
Sheriff Butler, the villain of our tale, has certainly done Isaac dirty in all possible ways. Moreover, he has weaved a web of deception that traps many folks in the community. Including one Blackfoot character, played by Q’orianka Kilcher, who is herself on a warpath of revenge. It’s this character that really deepens the story with added complexity. Their production evokes the high aesthetics of justice and revenge that pulse through the film.
Layering even more mischief and intrigue into the plot, former WCW world champion David Arquette makes an appearance as a bogus priest. His character adds to the dramatic tension in a hugely complicated title’s story. His character explodes into the lives of the main characters, providing comedic relief. Part of his charm, though, is he lightens the mood even when dealing with the darker side of revenge.
The role of St. Christopher, masterfully handled by Samuel L. Jackson, adds depth to this already riveting film through his complexity and enigmatic nature. Amidst the hellish world of Trinity, St. Christopher acts as a true moral compass. To those who feel they have nothing left to lose, he provides salvation. His conversations with Isaac Broadway and Henry really drive home the film’s journey through faith, faithlessness and a sense of justice.
T4America fellow Isaac Broadway has an equally interesting history. He was running a stolen Confederate gold racket on the side, which makes his character infinitely cooler. As the story progresses, the audience finds out that Isaac was largely responsible for constructing most of Trinity. This painful and tragic irony takes on an additional layer when you consider the future that awaits him. It’s his deep connection to the town and its gruesome history that’s still haunting its people today that makes his quest for justice all the more compelling.
Pierce Brosnan stars as Gabriel Dove, the last honest lawman in Trinity. He fights against the odds to find justice in a town overtaken by corruption. His larger-than-life character is both ally and impediment to Isaac’s quest for vengeance. Watching how these protagonists’ tumultuous interactions pull them all deeper into their moral conflicts makes for a thrilling and riveting story.
