Rising Stars of the Circus: Tristan and Asha Prepare for “Humans 2.0”

Julia D grasshoppermarks Tristan and Asha Colless, up and coming stars from the National Institute of Circus Arts in Melbourne. Their phenomenal talents will be on display in the magnificent “Humans 2.0” at Arts Centre Melbourne. You won’t want to miss this hot new production, running from May 14-24, showcasing Asha’s jaw dropping hoop tricks and Tristan’s gravity defying acrobatics. Their personal journey as a couple began in 2021, when they first met during training at the world-famous U.S.

Their relationship only got stronger as they went, changing from a friendship to a collaborative, highly effective partnership. They originally bonded over a barre in ballet class. There, they immediately struck upon their shared passion for circus arts. By their senior year, they had created an unstoppable bond. After school every day, she and Kahli trained as a team for an hour or more.

Halfway through the pandemic’s second year, Asha reached out to Tristan with an offer to work together on some acrobatics. The interaction provided a catalyst for a deep bond, and for the first time, Tristan felt an unbreakable tie to Asha. That same passion for presenting work and artistic commitment ultimately made them a creative pair both on and off the stage.

As they were developing “Humans 2.0,” Asha had signed an agreement with the Australian circus collective Circa. This decision brought about a few major problems in their relationship. Tristan missed Asha deeply during her one-week show with Circa, but their reunion later that summer rekindled their creative collaboration. Since then, they have been joined at the hip, leaning on one another as they navigate the ups and downs of life on the road.

A touring life is tiring, Tristan admits, but he really enjoys being able to share this experience with Asha. With her by his side, it’s pretty terrific. He remarked that they are just too like-minded. On either side of the big top, their ideas complement each other beautifully. Their incredible compatibility has not only allowed them to enhance one another’s performances but blossomed their personal lives together.

Tristan and Asha will be graduating from the National Institute of Circus Arts at the end of 2023. Immediately following their graduation, they gained acceptance into a brand-new, cutting-edge program. This exciting new opportunity has the potential to stretch their artistry and raise their profile within the circus world. They can’t wait to share what they can do with you in “Humans 2.0.” Audiences are in for a spectacular feast of artistry and athleticism!
