Stabbings on Train in Cambridgeshire Prompt Major Response and Arrests

A dramatic situation developed on the 6.25 PM Spalding–Doncaster–London King’s Cross train. At least four of the stabbings were witnessed, prompting Transport Police to arrest two men at Huntingdon station the following day. The train was the same one that left from Peterborough just minutes before the attack, which has seriously left five people in critical condition. In fact, witnesses reported seeing an overwhelming number of victims, with one estimate saying up to six to twelve people were shot.

Emergency services, including armed officers, rushed to the scene within minutes. The British Transport Police confirmed their involvement, stating, “We are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed.” This prompt response has won accolades from territory officials. Ben Obese-Jecty, the MP for Huntingdon, remarked, “Very reassuring to see such a quick and effective response from the emergency services,” further noting the unprecedented scale of the police, fire, and ambulance presence.

Huntingdon station has not reopened since as authorities took the opportunity to pull a fast one. We regret to inform you that @nationalrailenq have announced all lines at the station are blocked. National Rail are reporting major disruptions all along the #LNER route. The A1307 has been blocked off as one enters the town center, to allow for emergency services to operate.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed her sorrow regarding the stabbings, stating, “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected and the emergency services responding.” She urged caution, advising, “I urge people to avoid comment and speculation at this early stage.”

New U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it “deeply concerning,” focusing on his care for those affected. He stated, “My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response.” Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said this was an example of a “brutal mass attack.” He insisted on getting timely public updates from police and other government officials about the still ongoing investigation.

As these investigations proceed, our top priority must be to protect the public while responding to the terrible legacy of this tragic event. The East of England ambulance service had sent a “large-scale response” to help those involved and to control the incident.
