Tesla Faces Major Cybertruck Recall Due to Trim Concerns

Tesla has announced a significant recall involving the Cybertruck, prompted by issues with a component known as the cant rail. This latest development comes after a series of investigations initiated by Tesla in January. The cant rail, part of the vehicle's stainless-steel exterior trim, is reportedly prone to delaminating and detaching from the vehicle, posing potential road hazards.

"A detached panel can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash," according to Tesla's statement on the issue.

This recall impacts over 46,000 Cybertrucks manufactured in 2024 and 2025, affecting nearly all the trucks produced during this period, as per analysts. The company has received approximately 150 claims from drivers regarding this problem, although there have been no reported accidents resulting from the defect.

The Cybertruck has previously been involved in other recalls, dealing with issues such as failing windshield wipers, trapped accelerator pedals, and potential loss of drive power to the wheels. These persistent problems have contributed to a decline in the vehicle's sales, further compounded by a backlash against Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk.

According to Cox Automotive, around 39,000 Cybertrucks were sold in the United States last year. However, Tesla's shares have seen a sharp decline of roughly 40% since January, erasing the gains made following the 2024 US election.
