Tesla Teases Major Announcement as Driverless Car Costs Revealed

Tesla, the Musk-run electric vehicle manufacturer, has dropped a teaser clip – Tesla This short video teases a really cool big announcement they’re about to make on their driver assist technology. The art piece, titled Sensitive Machine, features a spinning, anthropomorphic element that’s carved with an intricate logo. It ends with the numbers “10/7,” meaning the unveiling is scheduled for Tuesday.

Without blinking, Musk promised that the future driverless car would cost about the same as a new car today — around $30,000. Musk has made vague, unrealistic promises for many years that Tesla could convert its entire existing fleet of EVs into fully autonomous robotaxis via a simple software download. He’s been advocating for this ambitious goal for close to 10 years.

The new teaser follows Tesla’s recent display of its automated technological capabilities. Last fall, the entertainment firm held a high-profile invite-only event titled “We, Robot” in Hollywood. In Shanghai, they debuted their new two-seater Cybercab concept, which does away with steering wheels and pedals altogether. This idea is perfectly in line with Musk’s plan for the entrepreneurial disruption of commercial transportation.

We should not ignore Musk’s trailblazing proclivities. In 2018, he infamously claimed that the next-gen Roadster would be able to “fly.” He’s made claims that this moon-bound, Tesla-built sports car is being done as a joint effort with SpaceX. As mentioned on Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call, the next-gen Roadster wasn’t in production.

The company is no stranger to wild swings from its earliest announcements and product everything but launches. When the Cybertruck was first unveiled back in 2019, a planned demonstration went horribly wrong. Tesla chief Elon Musk even managed to break a window seeking to dramatize the vehicle’s toughness. And yet with all that, Musk continues to project an unfazed belief in Tesla’s plow ahead future.

No one would deny that Musk is doing amazing things with vehicles today. He’s among those who think Tesla’s Optimus robots can handle pretty much any task imaginable, all the way from factory work to babysitting your kids. This diversification indicates that Tesla is working on more than just electric vehicles. It’s connected to Musk’s master vision.

In this unusual financial climate, Musk grabbed media attention again when he bought close to $1 billion of Tesla stock in mid-September. Compounding the challenges for the agency, Tesla’s stock price skyrocketed in the third quarter. This boom was driven by a number of forces, most notably bullish forecasts on future product pipelines.

Everyone is looking forward to the big reveal this coming October 7th. Both industry insiders and Tesla fans are undoubtedly anxious to see how Musk’s latest dream takes shape and what it means for the future of autonomous driving and electric vehicles.
