An Australian man, Rory Sykes, tragically lost his life during the recent wildfires that ravaged parts of California, including Malibu. The 32-year-old, who was a British-born Australian citizen, perished when flames engulfed his self-contained cottage on a family property near Malibu. His mother, Shelley Sykes, confirmed his untimely death through an emotional social media post.
Rory Sykes, born blind and living with cerebral palsy, faced challenges throughout his life, including difficulty walking. Despite these challenges, he had aspirations of traveling the world with his mother. Shelley Sykes shared her heartbreak and the circumstances surrounding her son's death, explaining that she drove 400 meters to the nearest fire station to raise the alarm about the fire engulfing Rory's cottage.
