Tragedy Strikes as NFL Draft Prospect Kyren Lacy Dies at 24

Kyren Lacy, former LSU receiver and emerging 2024 NFL draft prospect, died unexpectedly at age 24. Lacy’s death longs overlap with dire legal straits that began after he was involved in a deadly crash last December. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

In December, Lacy was reportedly driving the wrong way in a head-on crash that killed someone. Official reports suggest that he drove off scene without even attempting to call an ambulance, the failure to act considered criminal negligence and thus charged criminally against him. Immediately after the shooting, he was released from jail on $151,000 bail. Just days after the crash, Lacy declared for the NFL draft, eager to pursue his professional football career despite the challenges he faced.

In his two seasons on the field at LSU, Lacy showed an elite second gear to go along with great explosive speed. He’s played in 12 games each of the last two seasons, ranking second on the team last year with 58 receptions and 866 yards receiving. Plus, he helped lead the Tigers with nine receiving touchdowns, proving his potential as an NFL prospect.

Lacy’s prominent sports career has been almost entirely eclipsed in death by his asserted role in the tragic accident that killed Hayley. His attorney Matthew Ory said he was confident authorities would eventually drop all charges against Lacy.

“We will be demanding a full and transparent review of how this investigation was conducted and why.” – Matthew Ory

Though the legal battle continues, Lacy’s premature passing shrouds a number of truths in mystery. The full cause of death has yet to be announced, which only deepens the heartbreak surrounding this tragic event.

Ory released a statement regarding Lacy’s passing, stating, “It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace.”
