From witnesses on the scene, eyewitnesses reported witnessing a black car driving dangerously just before it hit the gathering, sparking terror in the midst of the celebration.
Yoseb Vardeh, a food truck operator on the street that day, described the carnage he saw. “I didn’t get to see the driver, all I heard was an engine rev,” he said. When he stepped out of his food truck, that’s exactly what he witnessed. “I looked down the road and there’s just bodies everywhere,” he added, highlighting the chaotic aftermath of the incident.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim stated that the tragedy came just as the community was celebrating Lapu Lapu Day. He expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”
