A devastating incident unfolded early Saturday morning in Ybor City, a historic district of Tampa, Florida, known for its vibrant nightlife and tourist attractions. Silas Sampson, the suspect who drove his vehicle through a busy bar. He had been fleeing police when the crash happened. The crash killed four people and injured eleven more.
The crash occurred outside a popular bar in Ybor City, an area that draws many visitors due to its bustling atmosphere. In Sampson’s case, reports indicate that he crashed while trying to outrun police. The vehicle hit at least 13 members of a crowd assembled outside the business, creating an instant and calamitous situation.
Four victims died from their injuries on scene. A fourth victim was pronounced dead subsequently at a local hospital. Eleven others were injured, with five victims requiring hospitalization. One of those victims is still listed as critical. The other eight were treated for injuries that were stable, while two others with minor injuries refused treatment at the scene. All fifteen victims involved were adults.
Tampa’s police chief, Lee Bercaw, address media about the tragedy. In his statement, he extended his prayers and deepest sympathies to the victims’ families who were impacted by the tragedy. Sampson was arrested a few hours after the fatal incident and has since been booked into Hillsborough County Jail. As of this writing, authorities are still working to piece together the circumstances of the crash and whether any charges should be brought against him.
