The Dallas Cowboys organization is heartbroken over the sudden passing of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland. He was a little over 24 years old. On Thursday, the Philly Special Team announced his tragic death with a heartfelt message. This untimely and unexpected announcement rocked the football world, leaving fans and teammates alike devastated by his loss.
Kneeland is a second round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. We’re talking about an incredible athlete who was very raw after his rookie season, making strides playing 11 games. In 2025, he absolutely exploded. That year, he really stepped up and defined a larger role on the team. He scored his first career touchdown when he picked up a blocked punt and returned it for a score in the end zone. Unfortunately, it was marred by a brutal loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
It wasn’t a smooth road to professional football for the young athlete. Just weeks before his draft selection, Kneeland faced the unthinkable, losing his mother, Wendy, to cancer. After all, she’d always been one of the most important pillars of support in his life. He vividly recalled one time when she helped motivate him to greatness, saying “I would always tell her, ‘I’m going to the NFL.’ And you know what? I made it!”
Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Perzley of Premier Artists Agency, said that he was heartbroken at the loss of his friend and client. In a lengthy remembrance, he described Kneeland as his “beloved friend.” He recalled Kneeland’s path from a fledgling college athlete to a pillar of the Dallas Cowboys.
“I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night. I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys,” – Jonathan Perzley
Perzley wanted to convey Kneeland’s commitment to the sport and his athletes.
“Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words. My heart aches for his family, his teammates, and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time.” – Jonathan Perzley
Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina, as well as family and friends, are now mourning this tremendous loss. The only solace is that the NFL community has come together to support them, sharing thoughts and prayers for Kneeland’s family during this tragic time.
