Trump Confirms Deaths of Three Hostages Amid Ongoing Gaza Tensions

In a recent statement at the White House, former President Donald Trump revealed that three Israeli hostages held in Gaza have died. This announcement follows a drastic escalation in Israel’s military operations, including a resumption of its offensive on Gaza as recently as March 18. Even though a majority have now returned, the situation is still very shaky, with a cumulative 251 people kidnapped since the start of the conflict.

As of now, 58 are still held captive in Gaza, while 34 others are assumed to be dead but not confirmed to be deceased. Trump noted that following the abduction, 10 hostages were released two weeks ago, who expressed their gratitude towards him for his efforts.

During his speech at the ceremony, he shared about his conversations with the newly released hostages. He stated, “Two weeks ago, I had 10 hostages come in, and they thanked me profusely.” Trump was right to ask what this means for the rest of the remaining hostages. So I asked, ‘How many of those folks are remaining,’ and they said 59. I guess I thought it would be less than that. They went, ‘well only 24 are alive,’” he went on.

According to Trump’s most recent tweet, the number of these living hostages has dropped to 21. “I say 21, because, as of today, it’s 21. Three have died,” he confirmed. The updated estimate tallies 59 hostages. This number reflects the dramatic reversal of conditions on the ground.

The Israeli military has reported that at least 58 civilian hostages remain in Gaza. Mailing since the conflict broke out on October 7, bombardments have increased significantly. Our work continues to focus on the safe return of all who have been abducted.

As the situation develops, the families and communities affected continue to grapple with the emotional toll of the hostage crisis. The tragic death of some of the hostages highlights the urgent need for negotiation and humanitarian action even as military actions continue.
