Trump Expresses Anger at Putin and Zelenskyy in NBC Interview

In a recent interview with NBC News, former President Donald Trump expressed his frustration and anger regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump voiced his outrage, stating that he is “very upset” and “pissed off” by the whole affair. He lays part of his frustration at the feet of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. And yet, despite that rhetoric, Trump always insisted that he had a “very good relationship” with Putin.

Trump’s anger toward Putin seems to depend on the day of the week. He said his anger in turn evapor almost instantly if Putin goes and does what needs to be done. We have to remind Putin—I think he knows, I’m angry,” RR-21, text of Prof. The Last Empty Nest

The former president was equally critical of Zelenskyy, saying he wasn’t impressed with the way the Ukrainian president has been running the war. Trump called Zelenskyy a dictator. He shared a legitimate concern and frustration over what he views as a failure to lead at a critical time.

Since then, Trump has expanded upon his position on Russia, even describing how he would use economics against the country if diplomacy doesn’t work.

“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia.” – Donald Trump

He said such tariffs could even go as far as a 25% tariff on crude oil. Other products imported into the United States should be affected.

In addition to Ukraine-related grievances, Trump addressed his approach to Iran, threatening severe consequences if a deal is not reached.

“If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.” – Donald Trump

These comments take place against the backdrop of continuing talks with Iranian officials while Trump tries to hammer out terms that are favorable to U.S. interests.
