Jared Kushner outlined an ambitious redevelopment plan for Gaza during the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This unveiling coincided with former President Donald Trump’s signing of the inaugural resolution for the Board of Peace’s Gaza mandate, as stipulated by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The new initiative — USAID’s “Journey to Self-Reliance” — seeks to promote peace and inclusive development in places at risk of conflict around the world.
Throughout the event, Trump expressed his deep support for the Board of Peace. He called it one of the most powerful entities ever established. He communicated the great honor he felt to have been appointed as its chairman. The Board of Peace, in partnership with the United Nations, works to end conflicts around the world. All of the above, especially in places like Gaza that has suffered decades of volatility.
Kushner’s remarks came just a few days after the Board of Peace charter was signed. He underscored the thrilling prospect of a reborn Gaza. He articulated a vision where “Gaza could have 100% employment and opportunity for everyone.” This sunny perspective is what undergirds Trump’s boast. He is convinced that the impoverished population in Gaza has the opportunity to start living a better life.
A title slide proclaiming the future of “New Gaza” was front and center throughout the presentation, depicting the vision for this new territory. During his presidency, Trump often boasted about his limited experience in international affairs. He pointed out that he had personally resolved eight wars and teased, “another one’s on the way very soon.”
From next week, the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt will reopen. This step underscores new developments aimed at improving living conditions in Gaza. Ali Shaath, chairman of the Palestinian technocratic committee, verified this turn of events, which will no doubt enhance Palestinians’ movement and trade.
US Secretary of State praised Trump’s vision for Gaza, citing his “vision and the courage to dream the impossible.” This endorsement demonstrates a desire for Trump to act as an agent of real change in the region.
On a related note, Marco Rubio just gave a speech praising and defending everything Trump has done during his presidency, describing his leadership as historic. Such rhetoric fits seamlessly into Trump’s alternative reality where he’s had a transformative impact reconciling warring nations.
