TSA Agents Honored with Bonuses for Dedicated Service During Shutdown

Additionally, Governor Kristi Noem applauded the exceptional service of TSA workers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. To demonstrate her appreciation for their commitment, she sent them each a $10,000 bonus. This acknowledgment comes after thousands of TSA agents worked without pay during a government shutdown that began on October 1 due to a funding impasse in the US Congress.

During the 35-day shutdown, TSA agents endured struggles never before seen. Nationally, they worked longer hours and covered more shifts. This work helped guarantee that airport security remained secure even though air travel was turned upside down across the country. Many agents filled in for their sick or otherwise out-of-commission coworkers. This highlighted their robust commitment to maintaining safety and efficiency at the security gates.

The shutdown also led to the National Administrators of TSA taking over and working additional shifts. Tens of thousands of people answered the call during this scary and uncertain time. Front-line agents and airport administrators worked countless hours to accommodate that significant lapse.

In her opening remarks, Governor Noem offered her appreciation for these agents’ steadfast commitment. She highlighted their importance as guides and examples to others who toiled through the same challenges.

“They are examples to the rest of the individuals who worked with them and endured those hardships,” – Kristi Noem.

This public honor for TSA agents is in line with President Donald Trump’s call. He suggested extending the same financial inducement to air traffic controllers who continued to report to work during the shutdown.
