University of Kentucky Athlete Arrested in Infant’s Death Investigation

Laken Ashlee Snelling, a 21-year-old University of Kentucky track star, now faces arrest for the incident. Authorities discovered an infant’s body concealed in her residence. The local police arrested Snelling on Sunday after answering a call about a dead child. For that very serious incident, she was criminally charged with several offenses.

The police were called to Snelling’s residence on August 27 to further investigate the report. When they got there, the body of the dead baby was stuffed in a closet. A towel might have wrapped the baby securely, but at some point, her corpse was put inside a black trash bag. This alarming find prompted an urgent investigation into the child’s death.

Snelling has been charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the disposition of a corpse, all felonies. Under Kentucky state law, all of these charges are considered to be class D felonies. If convicted, under Pennsylvania law, she faces a prison sentence of between one to five years. On top of that, she could be hit with a $10,000 fine.

As part of the police interrogation, officers accidentally read Snelling her Miranda rights. This helped to make sure she was aware of her legal rights before the interrogation started. Information about the investigation has been released from the arrest citation, which was received and reviewed exclusively by local news station WLEX.
